A great place to spend a day with the family

Springtime in Kings Bridge park is beautiful as the streets are lined with
pink Cherry Blossoms along the Chippawa parkway. As you walk toward the falls
from Kings Bridge park following the Niagara river you will notice
two large freestanding gates standing about 30 meters in the air along the parkway.

These large gates are the water inlets for the Sir Adam Beck
generating station. These large gates open and close each
night to divert water from the Niagara river into the
Sir Adam Beck water channels for creating hydro electric power.
The water bypasses the Falls and flows to the generators.
A third canal is being built via an underground viaduct.

The water is usually diverted late at night, which reduces the amount
of water flowing over Niagara Falls. A noticeable difference should you be
gazing at Niagara falls at 3am in the morning.

The Upper Niagara recreation trail runs along the Niagara river front and
thru Kings Bridge park in Chippawa. At Kings Bridge park you will also
find a walk across bridge for bicycles and pedestrians which crosses
the Chippawa creek, part of the Niagara recreation trail, which will take you
onto the city of Fort Erie. If you park at Kings Bridge park you can follow the
Niagara recreation trail to the brink of Niagara Falls, which is located at
Table Rock House, about a 4km walk or ride through the parkland.

Follow the Chippawa creek into Chippawa town centre, a short
5 minute walk, and enjoy some cool refreshments and food at the local
creekside restaurants.

There is no swimming or boating allowed on the Niagara River side of
Kings Bridge park. The obvious reason is that you will be swept away down
river over the Falls. Here, the river is fenced off for your protection.
Although frowned upon, locals do swim in the Chippawa creek, which
branches off of the Niagara river. At Kings Bridge park you will
find a few swimming holes for taking a dip to cool off in. Be aware that
there are back currents and undertows in the fast moving waters of
the Chippawa creek. The warning is that if you get caught in a back current or
undertow, you can literally swim for a very long time and not move anywhere,
caught in the current.

There are annual drowning's in the creek each year, usually from people
who don't know the waters. Stay close to shore if swimming. No lifeguards on duty.

Animals must be on a leash. And you must clean up after your pet, or expect a hefty fine.
