Water flows from Lake Erie into Lake Ontario via the Niagara River and over Niagara's Falls. A drop of 180 feet (57 meters).

The Niagara river travels at a rate of 35 mph (56.3 kph).

While not exceptionally high, the Falls at Niagara are very wide. More than 6 million cubic feet (168,000 m³) of water falls over the crest line every minute in high flow, and almost 4 million cubic feet (110,000 m³) on average.

The Canadian side of Niagara Falls is designated Parkland, approximately 45 km long, from the shores Fort Erie, Ontario, to Niagara on the lake, Ontario, operated by the Niagara Parks Commission, and is one of the most beautiful parks in North America.

Since the early 19th century, Niagara Falls has been known as the Honeymoon Capital of North America.

The Niagara Parkway offers a paved pathway all along the shores of the Niagara river, know as the upper and lower Niagara Recreation Trail.

Throughout the Niagara Parkland, you will find fantastic floral gardens, well kept lawns, paved pathways and picnic tables, which makes for an enjoyable day by the Falls and the Niagara river region.

both bypass the Falls at Niagara but reroute the Niagara river water from the Falls to the generating stations. Large gates control the amount of water which is diverted, that is why the Falls at Niagara have less flow at night as compared to the day.
